R.I.P. Fudge - September 7th 2000
Fudge was my very first rat, I bought him from a Pet Shop on 13th September 1999, aged 5 weeks old.  He was a very special rat who was happiest when he was with me. He loved being with me in the garden or just sitting on my shoulder or inspecting my ears etc. He had to be put to sleep during an operation to remove an abscess that was found to be attached to his brain, nothing could be done to save him. I am very pleased that he had a litter of kittens born on 29th August, just days before he died. The mother was Truffle a Mink miss-marked hooded rat. She had 11 kittens, 6 bucks and 5 does. I still have the bucks and my eldest son and daughter had the does between them, so I still see all of them. Fudge was an Agouti miss-marked hooded rat. I miss him like mad.

R.I.P Ratbags - September 11th 2000
RatBags was a Black Hooded rat, I had him given to me in August 2000 along with his friend Ben, a Chocolate point Siamese rat. The previous owners didn't have time to look after them properly and never picked them up. They were about 2 years old when I got them. RatBags died very peacefully in his sleep. His friend Ben misses him as much as I do.

R.I.P. Butterscotch - January 31st 2001
Butterscotch was a miss-marked hooded rat. I'm not sure exactly what colour she was, but she was a sort of golden brown. I had her given to me along with Biscuit in July 2000. The previous owners kept them both in bad conditions and they both had myco when I got them. She was about 2 years old when I got her. She was ill with myco for a few days before she died in my arms. My poor girl.

R.I.P. Biscuit - April 21st 2001
Biscuit was an Agouti miss-marked hooded rat. He was about 2 when I got him. He had fought myco all his life and had badly scarred lungs. He died after a long struggle to save him. He was a lovely rat, if a little nervous because of not being handled by the previous owner. His cage mate Toffee misses him as much as I do. Here are two photos of him, they're not very good, but they are the only ones I have of him. They were taken a few days before he died.

R.I.P. Ben - June 4th 2001
Ben was a Chocolate Point Siamese, I had him given to me in August 2000 along with his friend RatBags, who died on September 11th 2000. He was a lovely, squishy, licky rat who loved to have his ears scritched. He suffered a stroke, or something similar and I cuddled him until he very peacefully passed away. He was about 3 years old. I miss him so much! There is a photo of him below, it's not a very good photo, but it's sadly the only one I have of him.

R.I.P. Sugar - September 13th 2001
Sugar was a red-eyed champagne that I bought from a pet shop on March 17th 2000,
when she was about 5 weeks old.  She could be a bit cranky with the younger rats at 
times, but it was all part of her nature and I loved her to bits. She died after being ill 
for several weeks with a suspected stroke. She died peacefully in her sleep.

R.I.P. Toffee - 31st October 2001
Toffee was my second rat, I bought him in December 1999 as a friend for Fudge. 
He came from a petshop when he was about 5 weeks old, so he was about 
two when he died. He had been looking very thin and old for a while and was
wobbly on his back legs. He wasn't able to wash himself properly, so I
had to help him. He had been getting lots of cuddles, scritches and treats as I
knew it was nearly his time to go. He died very peacefully in his sleep, 
so I am very grateful for that.

R.I.P. Badger - 13th November 2001
Badger was a black bareback rat who had a lovely nature. I had her given to me
along with her sisters when she was 5 months old, she was about 26 months old when 
she died.  She had started to look very old and frail, so I had been making 
more of a fuss of her than usual. She had been getting lots of cuddles 
scritches and extra treats. Sleep well my little girl, I will miss you a lot as 
will your sisters Fudgey and Tiptoe

R.I.P.  Candy - December 9th 2001
Candy was a mink hooded doe,  I bought her  from a petshop when she was  5 weeks old,
I got her with her sister Truffle in January 1999,  so she was about 2 when she died. 
She was waiting of an operation to remove a suspected mammary tumour, but she 
was on meds as she was  ill with myco and couldn't be operated on while 
she was ill. She died peacefully in my arms shortly before midnight.
She was a lovely natured little girl and I will miss her a lot, as will
her sister Truffle and the rest of the does.

R.I.P. Fudgey - February 23rd 2002
Fudgey was a mink hooded doe, sister to Badger and Tiptoe.  She was born in September
1999 and I got her in February 2000 when she was 5 months old, she was going on for 
2½ years old when she died. She had an operation to remove a lump from her side on 
December 18th last year, but she had managed to grow three more. I decided not to put her
through any more ops as she was ill with longstanding  myco problem and was on meds almost permanently. She got very frail and weak and was wobbly on her legs. She also had trouble
 holding her food, so I suspect she also had a pituitary tumour, so she was being fed with baby food.  
She died peacefully in her sleep during the night and she is now with her sister Badger

R.I.P Manuel - Aug 29th 2000 to  Feb 25th  2001 & Basil - Aug 29th 2000 to July 31st 2002
Manuel & Basil were home bred rats, their  dad was my first rat Fudge who died in September 2000. 
Their mum is Truffle in the above photo. They was born on August 29th 2000.  Manuel was on 
meds for a myco problem, but he died very unexpectedly during the night. He was with me
 in bed on my lap when it happened. He was the first of my home bred babies to die.
Basil died just a few weeks before his second birthday, I found him lying on his side
in the cage. He'd been looking very old and doddery for a few weeks, but it was
still a shock when he died. 
 It seems to me like there is a very special bond with a home bred litter as I have never had
quite the same relationship with rats bought from other people than with a home bred one.
I will miss Manuel & Basil very much, they were quiet gentle rat and the cage looks 
empty without them.

R.I.P. Truffle - 20th March 2002
Truffle was a mink hooded doe,  I bought her  from a petshop with her sister
Candy in January 1999 when she was 5 weeks old,  so she was over 2 years old when 
she died. She and Candy were the first two does I'd owned. She was a quiet,
unassuming rat, with a lovely sweet nature and I will miss her a lot.

R.I.P. Tiptoe - 20th March 2002
Tiptoe was a black bareback rat,  I had her given to me
along with her sisters when she was 5 months old, she was about 2½  years old when 
she died.  Tiptoe had an unusual nature and could be a bit of a cow bag when she
wanted to be.  She bit just about everybody that met her, just a little nip to see if  
she got a reaction, and if she did, she would nip harder the next time. She was 
the "alpha" in the does cage and although she was quite a small rat, she could
soon flip any other doe, no matter what size they were. She has been on meds for 
myco for more or less the last 6 months and I think that she was only still 
alive do to her having such a strong will. She died a few hours after Truffle 
died, which I was expecting as there were close friends. Goodbye my little Tippytoe,
I will always remember you, you were such a character and you 
will be missed very much.

R.I.P. Silk - 20th May 2002 & Velvet - 12th Feb 01 to 27th Aug 02 
Silk sadly died after what I think was some sort of a fit, she wasn't very old as she 
was born on the 12th February 2001. She is very sadly missed by me and her full 
sister Velvet. There was no warning that there was anything wrong with her
as she seemed fit and well up to a few minutes before she started "fitting". She died
in my arms while I was trying to ring the vet. She was a lovely natured rat, like her
sister, I miss her a lot! Velvet died suddenly for no apparent reason, she hadn't seemed
 ill at all, so it was a complete shock when she went. I miss her loads! 

R.I.P. Ice - 5th June 2002
Ice was a lovely platinum girl, I had her given to me by my friend, Estelle. I had wanted a
platinum for quite a while so I was delighted to get her. I picked her up from a show in
January when she was about 3 months old, so she was with me for a short time.
She was a lovely natured rat and beautiful to look at. She died suddenly of a probably
hemorrhage from her ovaries or her uterus and it was a big shock to me when she died.
She is very sadly missed by all the family.

R.I.P. Pringle - Aug 29th 2000 to 22nd June 2002
Pringle was another of my home bred babies and is the second one to go out of the six
bucks that I kept from the litter. He was the brother of Manuel and son of Fudge, 
both of whom are nearer the top of this page. He died probably of complications
of myco and he had been on medication for nearly 6 months. Pringle was a lovely Topaz
hooded rat and he had a very sweet nature. He was the alpha in my buck cage 
before he started being ill, so Merlin took over. He was a very easy going alpha
and was never mean to any of the other rats. He loved to share my cup of coffee with me, 
drinking it nicely off my finger and I could trust him with my young 
granddaughter as I know he wouldn't bite her. 
Goodbye my sweet Pringle, rest in peace.
